About the Society

For more than 117 years, the Society has built a community of caring by helping pets and educating people. Since its inception in 1899, the Society has helped hundreds-of-thousands of animals through initiatives like adoption placement, veterinary care, and humane education. The Society is proudly the oldest and largest private, open-admission animal welfare organization in Chicago. Annually, we assist more than 50,000 animals and people through our life saving programs and services.
